It's Complicated
There are some things we just want out of our lives. But no matter how hard we try, we can't seem to make it happen. Should we — do we — have the power to banish the things (or people or creatures) who really "get to us"? What other options might there be?

I have a friend who is in pain and dying of cancer. His wife says that it is very difficult to be in the present or to be "here" when "here" is pretty awful. What do you say to someone in that situation? Submitted By: Mollie

We are sorry some visitors appear to be having problems with the audio. May we request that you check the audio setting on the player itself, and see if that solves the problem for you? Submitted By: Admin

What a disappointment- no sound for my favorite minister, Dr. Caliandro. On line I go to Marble Collegiate Church every Sunday and have ever since he was on TV. And, I miss him. Please fix the sound! Submitted By: Jane MacWilliams

I had a minor injury that turned into a chronic pain syndrome the past 2 1/2 years. Many tests ruled out diseases ,yet every day the pain is there. It moves and causes problems in many different areas of my body. I fluctuate between prayer and what is this teaching me and anger and wanting it gone. I have learned a lot from this, not all of it good, but it is something that teaches me more about the human condition, every day. I have spent my life in healing professions , helping others and I think I thought that would insulate me from ever being in the position I am in. A lot of the good work I did, I can no longer do. So I just pray for the strength and wisdom to be with what is and be at peace with that. Submitted By: valerie

Chronic, daily pain is very challenging and I must admit that I do not always handle it well. The other night when it was keeping me awake, I finally realized how much I was resisting it and I said to myself, "Let my pain become my prayer." I was immediately overcome with compassion for all the pain in this world. It was as if Mother Earth and all creation was pulsing inside me and comforting me. My body relaxed and sleep ensued.
