In Southern Sudan, "after 21 years of war, many people had given up hope of ever being able to live one day without bombardment, without having to run away from their homes to hide in the swamps," says Milcah Lalam, programs manager, RECONCILE Peace Institute. While many organizations are now involved in peace building, RECONCILE also uses storytelling as a means of healing the deep wounds of war that resulted in so much emotional trauma in Sudan.

Milcah facilitates strategic projects related to peace building, gender based violence awareness creation, trauma awareness and healing, conflict transformation and capacity building for small and large-scale interventions in corporate, community and international settings to promote relationship building and social change.Currently, she is RECONCILE’s programs manager and acting principal for RECONCILE Peace Institute.

Milcah holds an MA in Theatre and Development Studies emphasis on post conflict development and trauma healing from University of Leeds (UK), a BA in Drama from Makerere University (Uganda), and specialized certificates in Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Transformation, Theatre and Peace building from Eastern Mennonite University (USA).
