As the nation continues to debate immigration policy, the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down portions of a controversial Arizona immigration law, while upholding the so-called "show me your papers" provision. A similarly tough immigration law was instituted last year in Alabama, where officials await a ruling from an appeals court on how the Supreme Court's ruling on the Arizona law will affect challenges to the Alabama law. Last year Four Alabama bishops from three denominations filed a lawsuit challenging the law, saying it would render their ministries to immigrants illegal.
