Faith leaders from across the religious spectrum gathered on March 29th to hand-deliver a petition demanding that Village Voice Media cease running advertisements in the adult section of backpage.com. The site is used to sell and buy minors for sex, according to the protestors. Joined by dozens of community members, the protestors also dropped children's shoes at The Village Voice entrance -- intended to represent each young victim they say is preyed on through the site. "Being a person of faith is not just about how we pray or how we celebrate holidays," said Angela Buchdahl, the senior cantor at Central Synagogue in New York, N.Y. "In the words of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, we need to sometimes pray with our feet."
