Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California unveiled new gun-control legislation on Thursday in a press conference that began with a prayer by Rev. Gary Hall, Dean of the National Cathedral. Feinstein noted the difficulty in pursuing such legislation, even after the shooting in Newtown, Conn., in December. Faith groups from across the spectrum have united in Newtown in an attempt to help the shattered community heal. Earlier this week, the Rev. Dr. James Forbes Jr., president of The Healing of the Nations Foundation, addressed an interfaith service at Newtown Congregational Church and told the crowd that those killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School did not die in vain, since it has generated national conversations about gun violence. They will leave a legacy that could spur change in gun legislation.
